Quick take
- Where: about 1,000 hydrants from Wemple Road into the Town of Benton.
- When: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., through early December.
- Each hydrant is flushed for about five minutes to check pressure and flow.
- If your water looks discolored, run cold water from your faucet until it clears. The discoloration comes from sediment stirred up in the lines.
Crews with Benton Fire District No. 4 have started their yearly flow tests on about 1,000 fire hydrants from Wemple Road into the Town of Benton, the Bossier Parish Police Jury announced through the Bossier Press-Tribune. KTBS also reported the testing.
When
Testing runs Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is expected to continue through early December.
What you might notice
Each hydrant gets about a five-minute flush so crews can measure water pressure and flow. That can stir up sediment and make your tap water look discolored for a while, especially where water has been sitting in the lines. If that happens, run cold water from your faucets until it runs clear.
The checks help make sure hydrants work for firefighting and catch problems in the water system early.
