- Anyone can give: drop off canned goods and other nonperishable food at the sheriff’s substations on Viking Drive or Arthur Ray Teague Parkway.
If your child comes home talking about a food barrel at school, this is why. Bossier Sheriff’s Office work crews are delivering barrels to schools across Bossier Parish this week for the yearly Operation Blessing food drive, the Shreveport-Bossier Journal reported from a sheriff’s office release. Students, teachers and staff fill them with donations.
Where the food goes
Operation Blessing is the sheriff’s office food bank program. At Christmas, donated canned goods and nonperishable food go into Spirit of Christmas food boxes that deputies and Posse members deliver to people in need. Brookshire’s Grocery provides the boxes. The program also helps about 80 to 90 families every week through the year. It started in 1998 and has always run on donations from people, businesses and groups, never public funds, the release says.
"Every year, our schools and community step up to help their neighbors, and that generosity makes a real difference for families across our parish," Sheriff Julian Whittington said.
How to give
You don’t need a student in school to help. Drop off canned goods and other nonperishable food at the sheriff’s office substations on Viking Drive or Arthur Ray Teague Parkway.
