L3Harris Technologies opened its new Arsenal of Freedom solid rocket motor plant in Camden on Oct. 20, joined by federal, state and local leaders, the company said in a release. The company says the plant is built to double its output, with room to grow.
The plant opened Tuesday, is 60,000 square feet and has been under construction since November 2025, Camden News reported. L3Harris representatives told the paper it will add about 60 jobs.
What it makes
The plant builds solid rocket motors for the U.S. Army’s Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System, known as GMLRS. L3Harris says the plant puts the work in one place.
How it was paid for
The company says the plant is part of a $216 million cooperative agreement L3Harris signed with the federal government in 2023 to meet demand for missiles including Javelin, Stinger and GMLRS. The same agreement pays for new buildings at the company’s site in Orange County, Va., and upgrades in Huntsville, Ala.
What leaders said
Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who took part in the groundbreaking, said the opening “is a reminder that Camden, Arkansas, is an anchor of the defense industry.” She said the company will soon begin producing motors at the plant. Sens. John Boozman and Tom Cotton and Rep. Bruce Westerman also praised the project in the release.
