Quick take

  • Proposed fee: $45.29 per ton of normal waste, up from $44.71 (a 58-cent increase).
  • Start date: Jan. 1, 2027, if the council adopts it.
  • Why: The landfill operator’s contract lets it raise its fee each year with inflation (the CPI), up to 6%.
  • On the Oct. 13 agenda for introduction. Final vote listed for Oct. 27.

Shreveport’s landfill fee could go up a little next year. An ordinance on the City Council’s Oct. 13 agenda (ORD 101) would raise the city’s gate fee for normal waste from $44.71 to $45.29 per ton, starting Jan. 1, 2027.

Why the fee is going up

The city’s fact sheet for the ordinance, dated Oct. 5, explains it:

The ordinance adds that same 58 cents to the city’s gate fee by changing Section 74-54 of the city code. The fact sheet recommends the council adopt it.

How big is the change?

Going from $44.71 to $45.29 is an increase of about 1.3%. The fee is charged for each ton of normal waste dumped at the landfill. The fact sheet doesn’t say how much extra money the change would bring in. It also doesn’t mention any change to household garbage bills.

When the council votes

The ordinance was on the Oct. 13 agenda for introduction. The fact sheet lists the final vote for Oct. 27. (It prints the year as “2023,” which appears to be a typo, since the sheet is dated Oct. 5, 2026.) The council’s regular meeting is Tue., Oct. 27, at 3 p.m., after an Administrative Conference on Mon., Oct. 26, at 3 p.m. Both are at Government Plaza, 505 Travis St., per the 2026 council schedule.
