The City Council recently decided to keep city curbside recycling. Since the week of Monday, Oct. 19, the City of Longview has been strictly enforcing its recycling rules, according to a city news release. The city says the changes are meant to get more people recycling and to cut down on trash mixed in with recyclables.
The new rules
- Recyclables only. Household trash and other non-recyclable waste are no longer accepted in blue-lidded recycling carts. A cart that is clearly contaminated with garbage will be tagged and removed from the property.
- Collection day. Recycling is collected one day after your scheduled trash day. If you put your recycling cart out early, on trash day, crews will skip it and pick it up the next day.
- More trash space. Residents who need more capacity can request an additional standard trash cart for $5 a month.

Nov. 12 volunteer meeting
The city, Keep Longview Beautiful and the mayor’s recycling task force, Longview Recycles, will host a public meeting on Thursday, Nov. 12, at 5:30 p.m. It will be in the Eitelman Room at the Maude Cobb Convention Center, 100 Grand Blvd. The city wants to sign up “Blue Crew” volunteers to show their neighbors what goes in the blue cart.
The city says officials will share diversion rates (how much material is kept out of the trash) since the October changes, hand out outreach materials and take feedback. Attendees can also sign up to cover a block, street or neighborhood. Details are at LongviewTexas.gov/BlueCrew.
