Marshall has two things on the calendar this week: a pair of City Council meetings on Thursday and a prescription drug take back on Saturday.

Thursday: Budget work session at 4 p.m.

The council has a special-called meeting at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, in the second-floor conference room at City Hall, 401 S. Alamo Blvd. It’s a discussion session on the 2027 budget. The agenda lists updates on Wonderland of Lights, the sanitation fund and the city fleet, a talk about the capital improvement plan, changes to the adopted budget (the depot, council travel and personnel) and how the city handles budget amendments. No votes are listed.

Thursday: Regular meeting at 6 p.m.

The regular meeting agenda for 6 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall includes:

The council also lists closed-door sessions on real estate and economic development talks with a business prospect.

Anyone who wants to speak on an agenda item can fill out a public comment form and gets three minutes, according to the agenda. The agenda says sign language interpreting is available with at least 72 hours’ notice. For Thursday’s meeting, that window closed Monday. The City Secretary’s Office is at 903-935-4446.

Saturday: Drug take back

Marshall police will collect unwanted, unused or expired prescription medicine for National Drug Take Back Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, in the parking area at Walgreens, 309 East End Blvd. N., KTBS reported. It’s anonymous and voluntary.

Police told KTBS that most opioid addictions start with prescription pills found in home medicine cabinets, and that turning pills in cuts down on water pollution from medicine flushed down drains. If Saturday doesn’t work, police said, the department keeps a green drop box in its lobby that’s open 24 hours a day, all year.
