Texarkana Water Utilities is getting ready to launch My TXK Water, an online portal that lets you see how much water you’re using during the month instead of waiting for the bill, according to a TWU announcement posted Monday.

What the portal does

TWU says the portal will show your water use in near real time, broken down by the hour, day, week or month. You’ll also be able to set alerts for unusual or continuous use. The utility says those alerts can help you catch a leak, a running toilet or other unexpected use early, before it turns into a surprise on your bill.

TWU has posted a user guide if you want to see how it works before you get access.

When you get it

The portal will roll out in four phases starting in early November 2026, so not every customer gets access at the same time. TWU says this lets customer service staff help people set up accounts as each group comes on. When it’s your turn, you’ll get an email invitation with instructions. TWU says it will also send reminders by text alert and in notices with monthly bills.

What to do now

Make sure the email address and phone number on your water account are current. You can check them by logging into the existing TWU billing portal or by emailing [email protected]. If your email is out of date, you may miss the invitation.

The new meters

The portal is part of TWU’s switch to smart water meters installed by Johnson Controls, which began in March 2025. City communications director Brooke Stone told the Texarkana Gazette that 15,982 meters had been installed in Texas and 13,539 in Arkansas, with about 400 installations left. Some customers have complained about higher bills since the new meters went in. At a public forum in February, a TWU controller said one possible reason is that the new meters are more accurate and capture low water use the old meters missed, the Gazette reported.

Paying online? Read this first

In a separate notice on Oct. 16, TWU said its online payment vendor is working to fix technical problems, and some customers may not get a confirmation number after paying. TWU asks you not to refresh the page or pay a second time, because that could charge you twice. If no confirmation number shows up, check your bank account to see whether the payment went through, or call customer service before trying again. If you’ve already been charged more than once, contact customer service.
